International Driving Permit (IDP): how to get one and where you can drive abroad in 2026

The International Driving Permit (IDP, or PID in Portuguese) is the official translation of your Brazilian CNH for countries under the Vienna Convention. It's valid for up to 3 years (or until your CNH expires, whichever comes first) and is issued within 5 business days by your state's Detran, for R$100 to R$280 (roughly US$18–50) depending on where you live.
